Chamber Tips

Are you a chamber member? If so, click to submit your business tip...

Employee Newsletters
Employee newsletters can be glossy, full-color productions or simple, understated missives. When launching, or updating, a newsletter, first consider the tone you’d like to set with the publication—and then make design decisions based on that.

Newsletter Preparation
When planning for the production of a company newsletter, take this important factor into consideration: time. You’ll need time for brainstorming, interviewing, research, drafting, revising and proofreading—all vital to the writing process.

Free PR?!
Contact the chamber or local organizations that you belong to and offer to speak or give a free seminar on a topic that you are an expert in. Let the local papers know and often times they will post it in the calendar section of the newspaper if it is of public interest.

Get Your Company's Name and Logo Out There!
Repetition is the key to getting new customers. Repeated impressions of your company name and logo through mailings, sponsoring events, or sending promotional items is the best way to get noticed. Set up an ongoing plan to reach your customer base several times throughout the year with a well thought out and designed promotion.

Expect the Unexpected
Being in business means you probably have more to do than time to do it. Your well planned schedule is a guide. Sometimes all will go well. But the unexpected can cause any schedule to fall-apart. Deal with priorities first and the rest will follow.

Business Plan for a Startup Business
A business plan consists of a narrative and several financial worksheets. Included in your business plan must be a General Company Description and an explanation of Products and Services. These narratives are the critical fundamentals of the business plan.

Budget Guidelines
Creating a budget is an essential part of your business plan and once it is created it follow it! That doesn’t mean that your budget is fixed. Be flexible and adjust as needed. If unanticipated outflow occurs make adjustments in future expenditures.

Business Law Basics
If you are a small or large business owner understanding business law can be difficult. Keep in mind that business law can affect agreements, trademarks, copyrights, licenses, contracts and more. Always consult an attorney for specific legal advice.

Website 404 Page Not Found Error Pages
Customize your website's 404 Page Not Found error page. Include possible reasons why the web page was not found and a link to your website's home page and site map. Generic 404 error pages do not provide navigation to your website and discourage users. Custom 404 pages encourage users to keep looking and let them know that you value their time.

Five Tips for Effective Email Marketing
Here are 5 simple tips to keep in mind:
1.WIIFM - What's In It For Me? Answer that question for your readers, as quickly as you can in the body of the email.

2.Keep it short and simple. No one has the time and least of all the inclination to read long winded pieces of literature that severely lack any instruction on what to do next nor offer any call to action.

3.Don't make a "noise". Unnecessary use of exclamation marks in headings, subject lines and within the text create "noise" that shouts desperation. Good copy does not need a series of exclamation marks because it is attention grabbing in itself. If you must, use question marks instead; they are much more engaging. Don't you agree?

4.Personalize. Make your reader feel special by addressing them and making an offer in your email that appears to be designed for a select group rather than just about anyone.

5.Be honest. It is tempting to use offers in the subject line. Avoid the temptation. Match subject line to content.
